60 Seconds with… Adam Watson
There’s more to us than parcel delivery. We’re also a company made up of interesting, talented and passionate people, and have all sorts of funny stories and experiences to share. That’s why we started our ’60 seconds with’ series – to introduce you to some of the faces behind the brand, and show you a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes.
In the first instalment, we met Douglas Faulconbridge: operative, adviser and fundraising extraordinaire at our national hub in Coventry. Next up, we’re chatting to Adam Watson, who works in the retail team at our Head Office in Milton Keynes. He joined Royal Mail Group on the Commercial Graduate Scheme in 2014, having graduated from the University of Bath the year before.
As well as being passionate about his work (his early promotion off the scheme contributed to him winning the ‘Most Likely To Be A Future CEO’ Graduate award in 2016), he avidly follows Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, and when he’s not spending his weekends away in Europe, he’s usually exploring London’s craft beer scene.
Find out more about Adam and his experiences working at Parcelforce below.
Home town: Brighton
Place of work: Parcelforce HQ in Milton Keynes
Job: Consumer propositions manager
Day to day duties: I look after Parcelforce’s pricing across all retail channels (Post Office, Parcelforce.com, Depots, etc) and I’m also responsible for identifying and proposing new target groups of UK consumers for us to focus on.
Hobbies: Football, running, squash, travelling
Favourite holiday destination: Anywhere in Eastern Europe!
What you love most about your job: The consumer arm of the business has been doing very well recently and we have lots of exciting plans in the coming years, so I’m really proud to be contributing to it. Plus, the variety of work and scope to deliver change quickly keeps me on my toes. Working so closely to the end consumer is also hugely motivating, especially in a market that is constantly evolving.
Any funny work stories: I was in a meeting at HQ a couple of months ago and needed to grab something from the car park. I thought it would be quicker to go out of a side exit rather than the main reception, but as soon as the door opened all the security alarms on the ground floor went off! There was a board meeting happening right next to where I was standing, and they didn’t look too pleased…
Can’t live without: My phone – I’m always getting lost while out and about, so Google Maps regularly has to bail me out.
Claim to fame: In my younger years I looked very similar to the Milky Bar kid – so much so that my parents auditioned me for the role and I became the ‘reserve’ Milky Bar kid. This basically meant should anything have happened to the actual one, I would have been in all the ads instead. Luckily for both of us, nothing did happen to him!
Describe yourself in one word: Ambitious
